Rodolfo Avila ready for Beijing challenge

Fresh from a fantastic double podium finish at Shanghai, Rodolfo Avila will hope for more points for the Asia Racing Team as he returns to the scene of his finest hour in the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia this weekend at the Beijing Goldenport Circuit.

The young Macanese driver got off to a superb start, grabbing Pole Position and taking two podium finishes. The Asia Racing Team driver’s impressive performance put him just five points behind the far more experienced championship leaders but he has never raced in Beijing’s permanent track before.

Previewing his trip to Beijing Avila commented: “Obviously I am looking forward to the meeting and carrying on the momentum we gained from Shanghai but the track in Beijing is new territory for me. At the last race we were able to turn a car that was not competitive into a competitive one quite quickly. Let’s see what is going to happen this weekend. I think that Qualifying will be the key to a good race. We are aiming to mount a strong challenge this weekend.”

Despite the outstanding results in the championship debut, Avila doesn’t know if he is going to continue racing in the championship after China’s capital city round.

“I want to honor the agreements we have with BNU, RP Macau, Fat Siu Lau, Sujika Crafts e PAL Asiaconsult but I have to admit this is a worrying situation. Macanese motorsport is living days of incertitude and the very few Macanese drivers who are racing at full time are feeling it deeply. I believe in this project and I’ll do my best to keep it alive to avoid that someone destroys all the success we have been building until now”, held Avila.

The Beijing ‘Fascination Porsche’ event kicks off with free practice on Friday 8 May. Saturday features the Qualifying. The two Races will take place Sunday 9 May. The ‘Fascination Porsche’ weekend is the first such event organized by Porsche China and Porsche Asia Pacific, and will provide an opportunity to experience the extraordinary heritage of the iconic German car manufacturer.
